By state statute, township government is responsible for the administration of General Assistance, also known as GA. General Assistance is a locally administered welfare program providing financial assistance to persons who are not eligible for any other state or federal assistance and who do not have adequate income or resources to provide for their own basic needs. Clear Lake Township has adopted the "General Assistance Handbook for Local Government Units-Flat Grant" and follows these policies and procedures.

Applicants must be a resident of Clear Lake Township, age 18 or older and a United States citizen or qualified immigrant. In addition, applicant must meet all financial and non-financial eligibility requirements. Typically, our GA clients are single, unemployed or applying for Social Security disability and have no other means of financial support.

If approved and able to work, you will be obligated to participate in our Workfare Program. In this program a client must actively seek work, which could include attending job fairs, and attending job skills training classes as they become available.

Eligible clients may receive a maximum of $245 per month towards basic maintenance needs. This amount is disbursed to the client by disbursing order only. Actual payment is made to the vendor only.
